we did it because it was a challenge, we both like to push ourselves and it is quite a difficult game to design, but its really coming together well.
development is harder and longer with less fun feedback, but its also the most indeph and complex design ive done so there is a big reward in that aspect once we finish.
im more of a fan of skill games, but have come to find that luck is a very important factor in a lot of “skill based” games so they dont all become chess.
what i mean is chess is a perfect game design wise, but extremely alienating because there are basicly a large number of people that are so good people just starting out will never win and get frustrated. ive found with isaac that its very important to allow for luck to play some role in skill based games in order to not make them so alienating, magic and poker are good example of games that walk this line very well, and they are better games because of it.
